Celebrity Guests- Meet the Browns Co-Stars
Co-Stars from Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns stopped by to deliver a personal training for the Drama class. They play very humorous characters, Ms. Edna and Colonel and their energy can’t be matched. The students learned a lot and were extremely excited to meet them in person.
Nutcracker
The Nutcracker, A Christmas Play by June Rogers was my favorite holiday play The Nut cracker was a talented female artists who knew her way around the stage well. The Nutcracker’s mom made all of the beautiful costumes, and her sister who was a ballerina taught Swan Lake to the dancers; they tiptoed graciously. She performed the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy perfectly. The Mouse King played by the stage manager saved the show. The original cast member did not show up opening night. OMG! The students worked as a team from at rise until curtain call. We did it! The show was amazing!
Cinderella
Leah took on the role as Cinderella and had a Stellar performance three nights! She brought the house down with her song, “Alone in my Corner.” A talented young actress under strong leadership was a success for all!
A Musical Revue- Sutton Middle School
This musical revue was during my second year at Sutton Middle School, and I was pleased to have so many talented young artists and supporting parents. Each semester, I watched my students develop their acting and performance skills. This musical was done in honor of Black History Month.
UIL- One Act Play Competition
Slaying Bob Marley and the Minion of Babylon won two awards in the UIL competition.
The students received Jamaican accent training and nailed it!
The playwright came to the One Act Play Competition and was very impressed.
Teen Court by William Gleason
Tawny Linkletter is “Miss Everything” in high school. She even won the school fight song contest with her entry, “We Bite.” Everything was going great until she was charged with stealing the tune from another source. Now she faces a charge of plagiarism in the second degree and is due in Teen Court for the school trial of the decade. The prosecutor, Odessa Permian, is experienced and looking for the big conviction. The bad news for Tawny is that her school-appointed defense counsel, Archer Attaway, is the high-school “loser” and is not known for his skill in anything, much less legal defense. The prosecution has several high-profile witnesses who are willing and eager to testify against Tawny in the school courtroom. Can Archer overcome enormous odds to ensure that justice is done in the high-school Teen Court trial of the decade?
